Medical Services
Québec City is known worldwide for the quality of it medical services. The expertise of the medical team as well as the use of state-of-the-art technologies allows the population to benefit from high standards health care. Quebec Region’s health care effectiveness is based on the coordination of its workforce. Six general hospitals are present on the territory of Québec City: Hôpital du Saint-Sacrement, Hôpital de l’Enfant-Jésus, Hôpital Laval, Centre hospitalier de l’Université Laval (CHUL), Hôtel-Dieu de Québec and hôpital Saint-François d’Assise.
Emergency services
Emergency services are available 24/7 in all Québec Region’s general hospitals. Beneficiaries have constant access to emergency doctors’ expertise as well as diagnostic radiology services and laboratories, medical specialities such as internal medicine, neurosurgery, cardiology and orthopaedics. Ambulance resources are available all over the territory, day and night. The whole Québec Region has access to a 9-1-1 service which gives access directly to a call center where ambulance services, fire departments and law enforcement can be reached. The 9-1-1 emergency service is also available 24/7.
Medical services, first aid as well as ambulance services will be present on all competition sites, from competent and bilingual medical staff members. In addition, specialized medical resources, emergency resources and anaesthesia-traumatology services will be available on sites where higher risk competitions take place. Immediate medical evaluation services of athletes will aim at evaluation, stabilization, appropriate orientation and rapid transport to complementary resources when judged necessary.
As such, during their stay, athletes and their attendants will have access to effective, quick and high quality health and social services. Indeed, the Quebec Region is equipped with a health and social services network perfectly adapted, which is able to meet the participants needs at all time. This network is composed of 6 major establishments, 2000 short-term care beds, 800 medical specialists, 380 general practitioners covering all medical specialities and using state-of-the-art technologies. Except for these general hospitals, the network also includes four local community service centers as well as many polyclinics, many of which are specialized in sport medicine and physiotherapy. Note that the Université Laval’s Physical Education and Sports Hall (PEPS), which is a site welcoming many competitions, includes a sophisticated sport medicine and physiotherapy clinic.
